Greenhead Earthship

All Earthship Volunteers will have the opportunity to learn and assist in construction methods which are specific to Earthship building such as pounding tyres to form a thermal mass wall, building non-structural walls with bottles and cans and mixing and applying adobe plaster and many other sustainable building techniques. Join the team at Greenhead Moss on their first earthship tyre pounding and continuing on the demonstration wall. All days 9.30am - 3.30pm. Bring strong footwear and a packed lunch.

Earthship Seminar

Dinner and an opening discussion of the concepts involved in the Earthship. The following day includes an Earthship tour, on-site tire pounding, mudding, and can walls and an evening slide show. Sunday is split between additional hands-on work, touring Earthships in progress and addressing individual applications. The systems are demonstrated and explained. Reviewing the Earthship books and videos prior to the seminar will help you get the most out of this weekend.

Participants will learn the techniques of building with used automobile tires to construct a passive solar home, while gathering information on sustainable living and touring the earth home on the premises. This is a hands-on class; participants are expected to dress for construction work and for the weather, and to be interested in two full days of physical activity. Discussion, and an information book written by the instructor, are included in the course.

Earthship Scotland Training Program - Earthship Biotecture will start construction on an education facility for sustainable, off-grid living during Spring 2008. Earthship inventor Michael Reynolds will spend 2 weeks starting the Earthship. There will be positions available for ten trainees for each week.

Earthship Holland Training Program - This fall an experienced Earthship crew will be starting construction on a public Earthship education facility/tea house in Zwolle, Netherlands. The project consists of enclosing the structural shell of the building; tire walls, roof beams, insulation, greenhouse framing, and glazing. The water and power systems will also be installed enabling the project owners to utilize solar power and the water caught on site for further construction purposes. Gray water planters will be constructed, interior walls will be built, and, with time permitting, finishes will be completed.
