The World prefers to build with straw bales...

During September 2007 naturalhomes.org asked the question "I want to build a..." with a choice of natural building construction types to select from. There were exactly 100 votes from around the World. 92% of the votes came from Europe and the Americas with 8% of the votes from the rest of the World. The graph below shows the distribution of the World's vote showing straw bale construction is the World's preference for building a natural home.

Votes in the Americas and Europe came from the following countries. In the Americas: USA, Canada, Brazil, Costa Rica, Mexico and Argentina and in Europe: England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Portugal, France, Denmark and Slovakia. There were too few votes from Austrilasia, Africa and the Middle East & Asia to present meaningful statistics for those regions. The votes from Europe and the Americas are shown below.

The Americas like cob just as much as straw bale...

In the Americas there is an equal desire among people to build straw bale homes (34%) as there is to build cob homes (34%), with cordwood (17%) and earthbag (9%) homes coming in 3rd and 4th. In Europe there is a clear preference for straw bale construction (54%) with oak frame (18%) and cob (14%) following in 2nd and 3rd place.
